Hi, everyone.
I'm Stacie, and I’m excited to kick off this blog as part of our Communicating Online course.
About Me
I’m currently in my third year of pursuing an Environmental Economics and Policy degree while working full-time (mostly remotely) at an environmental firm in Seattle. I grew up in Texas, spent a few years in Bandon, Oregon, and now live in Tacoma, Washington (so, the Pacific Time zone).
This is my first college-level communication course, but not my first communication course overall. I've taken several professionally, with my favorite being a Visual Communications course where we explored the art and impact of illustrating concepts in professional settings (illustrating a brainstorming session, or storymapping a strategic plan, for example).
A Fun Fact
Fun fact: I collect domain names. I registered SpaceTime&Design ages ago, then forgot about it. When it popped up on my screen during this assignment, I realized how well it aligned with my values and decided to bring it back to life. This brand reflects the things that matter most to me: the spaces we occupy—mentally, emotionally, and physically; the time we protect and prioritize; and the intentional design that ties it all together. Rediscovering this domain felt like the perfect nudge to explore these ideas further in this course.
An Interesting Fact
I love hiking and once filmed a documentary, Six Million Steps, about hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. I have a side gig as a brand designer, and am a Girl Scout troop leader, a new member of the Mountaineers, and a pretty great parallel parker.
A Preference
I hopped off the social media bandwagon years ago, except for LinkedIn which I maintain for professional purposes. When I do post, it's primarily related to my work, or how it intersects with my space-time-design philosophy. I also use e-mail, but isn't that considered a necessity by now?
A Piece of Media (to round out the assignment)
Here's me at the top of Mt. Whitney as part of my film project.
